Re: Ferres; bonkers, updates and stuff
No no no Ferres..you are not lost or a "loser" addict..you are one of Us. You are an Artist.
Artists are simply what they are..we are the Lost Angels..the Dark Spirits. Some artists choose a bright sunny imaginary world to draw and paint..they do Disney or happy kids cartoons or Winnie the Pooh..and if you look closely at these artists, you find that they are seeking what is unobtainable in their real lives. Their lives in real world are mostly quite dark and twisted. We are ALL quite dark and twisted. No matter who...Walt Disney, or Frank Frazetta, or Gil Elvgren, or Hajime Sorayama..there is an inner Hell blazing furiously in them all. They escape this Hell temporarily through their creations.
We, on the other hand, seem to embrace our personal Hell..I do. I fought any public display of my darkness, my deepest blackest images and desires, most of my life. It resulted in my own insanity. 15 years ago I embraced the madness, let all the horrible devils out of the dungeons of my mind and released them to play in my real world. It saved my life.
We must do what we do, because it is who we are. Of course a person is actually many people, with many interests..I am a musician, an artist, a motorcycle builder and racer, a film effects artist..each of those is a different person really..but in my deepest darkest lower cellars of sexual thoughts and desires, THIS is who I am, this Demon you see in Black Van, or the slave Masters at Bohemian Grove, the corrupt Colonel in Indefinite Detention, the crazy tattoo face Captain in Slave.TV..I live vicariously in my dark world through them. Even though I am with one of the world's most beautiful photo models, who is my Slave for life..this inner Devil must still play in ways even she would not withstand IRL.
You are not defective or ill of mind Ferres. You are an Artist. A great artist in my opinion.
In my experience, the greater the Artist, the greater the Devils he wrestles. I wrestle enormous monsters from Hells' depths, so I assume I must be pretty good. I sense in your words that you are at war with such Monsters yourself..I feel your distress at this.
I have my huge monsters too..as we all do. We are Artists.

Your work for A PASSAGE EAST was what drew me to dofantasy in the first place. The artwork is sublime. Financial restraints dictate that I can't buy everything I see, but I admire your work enormously.
I paint military miniatures for a hobby. That is my raison d'etre. I don't claim to be the world's best...but I'm happy with what I can achieve. I am content. The great sculptor, Henry Moore, once said that it is important to be interested in something in life, regardless of whether one is any good at it or not. I always keep that little piece of advice in mind whenever I embark on a new project.
None of this applies to you, of course. You are exceptionally gifted at what you do and certainly amongst the foremost artists at dofantasy.

I understand.I really don't get enough feedback. There's practically just one guy and everyone else is quiet.
It can feel like a slap in the face when your work seems to be ignored, but the basic fact which we can all take comfort from is that, the best and most sincere feedback is that people keep paying to see what we do.
As a fellow artist, I have no hesitation in saying that your work is exceptional and an inspiration, always of high quality and often amazing.
That is why so many pay to see it.

Comicglutton: Really? You know the Armorama.com website? I'm a regular feature contributor...I have articles, photos, all on WW2 US-Nazi vehicles in West Europe '44-'45.
I build 1/35.
Look me up on Armorama, my screen name is Warcloud.

My true monsters have long since died, but left irreparable damage in their wake.
What keeps me going is knowing that somehow, what I do is appreciated in someway.
I know now why many artist don't last very long.

OK. I'll pay a visit. Good to have a fellow military enthusiast on the board. My interests range from the French/Indian war to WW2.

I find it interesting that current armor concepts seem to have lineage to German WW2 concepts. Take the US Abrams and Leopard2's compared to the WW2 Tigers.ROBERTS wrote:Comicglutton: Really? Re: Ferres; bonkers, updates and stuff
We should probably "talk tanks" some day, but yes...the Nazis and their brilliant designers created the most functional armored fighting vehicles ever on Earth...the modern day tanks are direct descendants.
If you examine armored engagements between German and Allied forces, especially against the Russians, yu'll soon find that the Germans rarely if ever really lost a tank battle..their gun power, accuracy, range, and speed of fire was superior to everything..they usually killed more tanks than their opponent in battle. But were outnumbered and overwhelmed by air power.
Tank to tank, even numbers, they always won.
