"We just lost Australia...." Don't believe everything you he

An "internet filter" has been proposed by the Australian government for a long time, but it has not happened and it won't happen, partly because there is a lot of opposition to it and partly because it is technically impossible to create. I don't think internet porn is in any real danger in Australia.

Try telling the Chinese it's technically impossible. When I began my website in 2000, I had members from all over the world. About every country. Now? Probably lost half due to government installed internet controls.

I'm by no means a computer or internet expert, but I've heard of various ways of getting around government attempts to control the internet, such as open proxies.
I don't know the details, but I've heard that one of the reasons the Australian government haven't introduced their internet filter is because they haven't worked out a way to make one effective.

People are getting increasingly right-wing and prudish all over the world. I guess history is a cycle with endlessly repeating patterns, I hope this march tot the Right doesn't end in the same way as the last few. How short a memory people seem to have...

Well, you can keep up your personal fantasies of a "free and open" internet if you like, but it's already gone. The only reason Australia isn't shut down completely is they haven't coughed up the bucks like the Chinese did to get it done.

Whoever thought the descendents from a bunch of convicts could be so legal minded ay :D

I'm from Aus. Our constitution does not have a "free speech" clause so the government tends to try and do what a few puritans in power want. They then brainwash the masses into believing it is the right thing to do  .

It's been a while since the numbskull internet censorship laws started up... but so far nothing much seems to have happened. If something has happened, they are keeping it hushed. In any case, I use proxies and hell would freeze over before they stop me from accessing what I want  So, you haven't lost us yet.

Hi Guys, I just received this below. I have to say we have a lot of customers (very good and friendly all of them) from Australia. ;)

Webmaster,
I would not take too much notice of the un-informed in Australia.
I have never had any problems accessing any sight I have wanted to and I have no special skills.
