Uploading an Avatar

I have been trying to upload an Avatar to the forum but I cant get an image down to the 6KB demanded. I see that several people have succeeded at this task how have you gotten an image that small without it becoming a formless blob?

Any help would be... helpful.

I resized mine to 90x90 pixels first, then saved it in 60% JPEG quality using Photoshop. You may want to experiment with the JPEG quality setting of your graphics software to end up with <6KB.
